“Mexico visto por sus Niños”. The Mexican Cultural Center of Northern Califronia cordially invites you to visit the exhibition “Mexico Visto por sus Niños” on display at the California Environmental Protection Agency (1001 I Street, Sacramento, Ca 95814) from February 18 through March 28, 2008.
This collection of photographs was taken by children between the ages of 9 to 17 with digital cameras. This project sponsored by “Fondo para Niños de Mexico” (FPNM) was designed to give children an opportunity to be speakers of their own perspective, their lives and their surroundings through photography. Most of these children had never held a digital camera. The children participated in a photograph workshop emphasized in developing basic skills. This unique exhibition mirrors the diverse aspects of their daily lives, their towns, and their families. This exhibition also brings us closer to them and gives us an idea of who they are, where they live, how they play and all the elements that are important to them.
Approximately, 90 children from the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Puebla, Hidalgo, Michoacan and Estado de Mexico participated in this project. The project was design for the children to participate in the photo workshop, and implement those skills using the camera given to them. The exhibition you are here to enjoy today is a collection of the best pictures that brings us closer to understanding Mexico through the eyes of its children. It is also a door to understanding poverty a little more.
The FPNM is part of one of the world’s largest and most successful international organizations supporting the development of more that 7.5 million children all over the world who live in conditions of poverty. The FPNM runs permanent nutrition, health education and development programs with the active involvement of parents and youth from the community. Support is currently provided through 51 community organizations in the six Mexican states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, Puebla, Hidalgo, Estado de Mexico and Michoacan.
The exhibit is brought to you through the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California in partnership with the General Consulate of Mexico in Sacramento and the California Environmental Protection Agency. The exhibit will run through March 28.
