Music
Each year, the MCCNC in partnership with the musical group, Rondalla de Guadalupe of Sacramento presents an annual recital. Rondallas groups from the United States and Mexico are invited to partake in the recital. In 2006, the following Rondalla groups performed to an audience of approximately 3,000 at the Memorial Auditorium; “Desde Saltillo” from Coahuila, and “Voces y Cuerdas” from Sonora, Mexico. The enthusiasm from the performers, as well as, the audience created a heartfelt evening.
Rondallas perform with only guitar instrumentation and vocals. The Rondallas originated in Spain and continue to be a popular form of music in Mexico. The music is meant to evoke romanticism and used to serenade “señoritas” as a way of demonstrating one’s love.
The Rondalla de Guadalupe de Sacramento was founded in 1987 by Francisco Mondragon with the organizational support of the Mexican Cultural Center, what began as a dream by Mr. Mondragon has grown into an annual concert tradition in Sacramento.
